Markers and Pre-roll
Pre-roll
While ShowRecorder is Armed, it keeps the last few seconds of audio in memory. When you press record, the Take starts with that audio, so a count-in or the first note before your press isn't lost.
To set the length:
- Tap the gear to open Settings.
- Under Recording, choose Pre-roll: Off, 5 s, 10 s or 20 s. The default is 10 s.
The note under the setting says how much memory the Pre-roll uses while Armed. With Off, a Take starts when you press record. Pre-roll can't be changed during a Take.
Add a Marker
During a Take, tap the flag next to the Record button. A Marker is placed at that moment and the line under the buttons confirms it, for example "Marker 1 placed". The flag is dimmed when no Take is running.
Markers are numbered Marker 1, Marker 2 and so on. Each one is saved straight away, so it survives even if the app is closed mid-Take.
Rename a Marker
- During the Take: tap the list icon at the top of the record screen to open Markers, then tap a Marker and type a name, such as the song title.
- After the show: open Shows, tap the Show, then tap a Marker under its Take.
The new name is written into the files on the Device, and on the Drive when it's plugged in.
Dropout Markers
If audio is lost during a Take, for example when a phone call takes the input, ShowRecorder keeps silence of the exact length and adds a Marker named Dropout at that point. Every file stays in sync. Dropout Markers can't be renamed.
Where Markers end up
- In every Stem, as Broadcast WAV cue points.
- In the Reaper project, on the timeline with each Take's start.
- In the Show's list of Markers under Shows.
A note on times
The Markers list counts from when you pressed record. The Stems, the Show report and the Reaper project count from the start of the Pre-roll, a few seconds earlier. Both point at the same moment in the audio.
