Connecting an XR18 or MR18
The audio comes over the USB cable. Channel names and colors come separately, over Wi-Fi, through the Mixer Link.
Plug in the USB cable
Connect the mixer's USB port to your iPhone or iPad, directly or through a hub. ShowRecorder Arms on the mixer and the meters come alive, one per USB Channel.
An XR18 or MR18 sends 18 USB Channels at 48 kHz. The mixer sets the sample rate, so ShowRecorder records at the mixer's rate.
Use a powered USB-C hub
A long show drains a phone. A powered USB-C hub with power pass-through lets your iPhone or iPad charge while the mixer and a USB drive are plugged in. Look for:
- Power pass-through, so the device charges during the show.
- USB 2.0 or faster for the mixer. 18 channels at 48 kHz, 24-bit is about 2.6 MB/s.
- A data port for the Drive, if you record a second Copy. See Recording to a USB drive.
The record screen shows the battery level. If the battery is low and not charging, ShowRecorder tells you to plug in.
Choose the Audio interface
ShowRecorder picks up the mixer on its own. To check or change it:
- Tap the gear to open Settings.
- Under Recording, check Audio interface. It shows the mixer's name.
- Read the line below Sample rate. With an XR18 or MR18 it says 18 USB Channels.
If you have more than one input plugged in, choose the mixer here. The Audio interface can't be changed during a Take.
If fewer than 18 USB Channels come in
ShowRecorder warns you when it has reason to think some channels won't be recorded:
- When the system sends fewer channels than the input offers, a banner says so.
- When the Mixer Link has found an XR18 or MR18 but fewer than 18 USB Channels are coming in, the banner says, for example, "Only 2 of the XR18's 18 USB Channels are coming in." Choose the mixer under Audio interface.
If the cable comes out
If the mixer is disconnected during a Take, recording stops and the Stems recorded so far are saved. Plug it back in and press record to start the next Take.
